Sixty people are out of work following layoffs by oil giant Halliburton at its Eagle Ford Shale facility in Alice, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission.
Details of the compensation package were not immediately available, but the move comes a month after Halliburton announced it would be laying off thousands of workers worldwide.
The layoffs are the latest for the Eagle Ford Shale and Alice in particular.
Baker Hughes announced in February that it would lay off 51 people at its facility in Alice. Shareholders of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) and Baker Hughes (NYSE: BHI) voted this week in favor of the two companies' planned merger, Forbes reported.
Oilfield Trucking Solutions, a contractor for Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK), laid off 93 people at its facility in Pearsall in early March.
Texas Workforce Commission data shows that new job postings for oil and natural gas jobs has fallen by 40 percent in the Eagle Ford Shale since December.
